This company and website were started by Brett and Jessica Ramsey in 2008 with the hope of helping our planet regain its former self. We live in Clarksville, TN where Brett teaches Political Science at Austin Peay State University. We came up with this idea one day while wondering about our future, the future of our country, and of our world. We've actually been thinking about this for quite some time and even more so since we watched "An Inconvenient Truth."(A link to more information about "An Inconvenient Truth" can be found by clicking on "Additional Resources.") We try to do what we can. We always take Jessica's Honda (we can't afford a hybrid yet) whenever we go on trips to save gas and emit less carbon dioxide into the air. Jessica has also started recycling heavily since we moved here. We are lucky enough to have a place that recycles paper, plastics, aluminum, cardboard, and glass. She still gets frustrated about it, though, because not all plastics can be recycled there. Still, many places don't offer any of these, with the possible exception of aluminum cans. Of course, we see people driving around in old cars that emit far too much carbon dioxide, and we drive past the landfill quite frequently when visiting Brett's mother and see it piling up higher and higher. You just can't help but wonder if you're really making a difference.
The thing is, though, where would we be if we didn't do anything? To put it bluntly, scientists have already stated that we will experience severe droughts in the United States within the next 20 years, and other parts of the world will deal with other, major problems: Europe may see hundreds of species go extinct. Australia may experience heat so extreme that it becomes dangerous to go outside. Basically, it seems an unfortunate reality that the wheels have already been in motion for these events to take place regardless of what we do now. What we can do is try to turn things around, and quite frankly, we have to for our future, the future of our country, and of our world. If we don't, who will?
